The Purpose of Risk Management

Risk Management is a partnership. It’s not the risk manager guessing and documenting what they see in a vacuum. It’s not the business telling the risk manager just enough to check a box.

Both need to understand the other’s world. What’s more, risk managers need to be sensitive to the business’ values, objectives, and disciplines as well.

The goal is not to build a pretty dashboard and get gold stars. The goal is to inform each other and understand the company as it works and how it wishes to be.

It is about providing understanding in the breadth and depth needed for each audience. It is to protect and improve our investors’, teammates’, and customers’ welfare.
